The Wild Duck
Is it a form of violence to force truth upon a life sustained by false illusions?
📝ONGO's Reflection
When I first read this play, my blind faith that truth is always good was shaken. Ibsen depicts with cold severity how the "truth" exposed by an idealist destroys the life of an ordinary family. He asks, with piercing sharpness, how essential the life-lie, that small illusion, can sometimes be as a defense a human being needs in order to go on living.
"Deprive the average human being of his life-lie, and you rob him of his happiness."Henrik Ibsen, The Wild Duck
"평범한 인간에게서 삶의 거짓말을 빼앗는 것은 그의 행복을 빼앗는 것이다."
🌱Apply It Today
Don't carelessly impose your values or standards on another's life. Humbly accept that some people need their own refuge and small illusions.
