📜 Name Through History
📖 Origin of the Hanja
Originally Korean "Hanbat" (한밭) — meaning "great field". Until 1905 a small village (Hoedeokhyeon), it grew when the Gyeongbu Railway passed through. "大田" is a direct hanja translation of "Hanbat" — meaning unchanged. As Korea's geographic center, it became the transportation hub. Daedeok Innovopolis (since 1973) is Korea's Silicon Valley — KAIST, KRISS, and ETRI are all here.
