📖 Origin of the Hanja
"世宗" is the temple name of Sejong the Great (King of Joseon, r. 1418-1450) — meaning "ancestor of the world". The king who created Hangeul and built Korea's scientific golden age. The city was founded July 1, 2012 from former Yeongi-gun and parts of Gongju, as Korea's administrative capital. 18 central government agencies have relocated here. Korea's only city named after a person (a king's temple name).
