📜 Origin and History

The hanja "端" means "start". "午" is the noon — the strongest yang time. 端午 = "the start of strongest yang". On lunar May 5th, yang energy peaks — rituals ward off bad luck. Korean traditions include washing hair in iris water (changpo), swinging, and ssireum wrestling. Gangneung Danoje is a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
