📜 Origin and History

Originated from the Chinese legend of Jie Zitui, a loyal subject of Duke Wen of Jin. When Wen burned the mountain to flush him out, Jie died in the fire. People honor him by lighting no fires that day, eating only cold food. In Joseon, one of four major holidays — Seol, Hansik, Dano, Chuseok — for visiting ancestral graves.
