📜 Origin and History
The hanja "上元" is the first of Daoism's three Yuans (上元/中元/下元) — the day Heaven's officials grant blessings. In Korea, the first full moon of the new year. Customs include cracking nuts (burum), five-grain rice (ogokbap), and burning the daljip (moon-house) — torching the year's misfortune and praying for blessings.
