革 The Molting (Hexagram 49): Change wins trust only when the time has ripened. Flowing through in greatness and held true, its regret dissolves. Change needs a ripened time and trust. As heaven turns the four seasons, only change with cause leaves no regret.

Fire within the lake, each seeking to change the other — water and fire clashing, turning the old into the new.
Today is a time of transformation, changing the old and making it new. 'Ge' means fundamental change, as a hide is worked and remade into new leather. Yet change needs its ripened time and trust, and a hasty transformation brings regret. As heaven and earth change the four seasons and renew all things, when you change with cause and in season, the regret dissolves.
