📖 Origin of the Hanja
The hanja "張" combines 弓 (bow) + 長 (long) — "to draw a bow taut". Legend says the Yellow Emperor's fifth son Hwi invented the bow and received the surname. The most famous Korean Jang is Jang Bogo (?-846), who founded Cheonghaejin and dominated East Asian maritime trade.
