📖 Origin of the Hanja
The hanja "吉" combines 士 (scholar) + 口 (mouth) → words of a wise man → "auspicious". Korean Kil descends from Kil Dang. Kil Jae (1353-1419) was a late Goryeo loyalist and disciple of Jeong Mong-ju.
