📖 Origin of the Hanja
The hanja "沈" combines 氵 (water) + 冘 → to submerge. Korean Sim traces to Sim Hong-bu (late Goryeo). The folktale 「Simcheongjeon」 features Sim Cheong, who threw herself into the sea to restore her blind father's sight.
