📖 Origin of the Hanja
The hanja "宋" was a Zhou-era Chinese state and later the Song dynasty (founded 960 CE). Korean Song traces to Song Yu-ik of Yeosan Song (Goryeo era). Song Si-yeol (1607-1689), Joseon's Noron faction leader, appears more in the Annals of Joseon than almost any other figure.
