🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"What does the scene formed by a lady and the attendant at her side tell us?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

This is an anonymous Qing-dynasty Chinese painting, holding a scene where a lady and the one who attends her are together. In the posture and distance of the two figures, a quiet affection flows. In this scene I see the place of the one who keeps another's side. The center of the painting is the lady, but what fills the surface is the relation between the two. The place of one who silently stays at another's side, though not easily noticed, is by no means slight. A protagonist alone does not complete a scene. Only because there is one who keeps her side does the painting grow warm.
