Alms-bowl Pond, Diamond Mountains

발연 (금강산)
🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"How has water, flowing for so long, shaped the hard rock beneath it?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

Kim Hong-do painted the broad flat stone of Balyeon in the Diamond Mountains, and the pool that gathers as the water slides across it. Not a violent waterfall, but a gentle current that unrolls over the rock like silk. That flat stone must once have been hard, yet long water has worn away every sharp edge and turned it into a place where a person can sit and rest. Here I see that it is not force but time that is the most exacting sculptor. Softness is only another name for slow patience.

Rather than straining to change everything at once, choose one small thing to repeat in the same place for a long while.
