Jeong Seon seated a single cat beside the wild chrysanthemums of an autumn day, and let a butterfly drift above it. The cat, neither hunting nor chasing, simply rests in the sunlight. With no grand event and no tension, one idle moment of a season is held quietly on the surface of the painting. In this work I see that time in which nothing happens is, of all things, the hardest to enjoy in a life. Only an eye that knows how to paint stillness can recognize stillness.
