🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"Why choose, of all things, eight scenes of one region to paint?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

This is Kim Hong-do's painting of eight fine places in Hwaseong. A region holds countless scenes, yet the old one chose eight. Rather than trying to hold everything, he culled only what touched the heart most and gave it a name. In this choosing I see a way of loving. To love one place deeply is to decide what of it to cherish. To say that anything is fine is in truth to say that nothing has been carved into the heart. Only when one culls and names does a scene at last become one's own.
