🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"Why was the space of learning drawn larger than it truly was?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

This is the full view of the Gyujanggak in the rear garden of Changdeok Palace, painted by Danwon Kim Hong-do at the age of thirty-two. King Jeongjo gathered young civil officials here and had them devote themselves to learning. The painter set the Gyujanggak larger than life at the center of the scene, encircled by the surrounding landscape. I read, in this exaggerated proportion, what an age held most precious. What was drawn large was what was honored greatly. That a house of learning, not power or wealth, was raised at the center of the scene tells the weight of heart poured into that place.
