활쏘기 (풍속화)
🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"Why was an ordinary scene of learning and teaching archery left as a painting?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

This genre painting by Kim Hong-do shows together one who is learning the bow and one who steadies his posture. The protagonist is not a hero's feat of arms but the process of learning. I see here the honesty of teaching and being taught. An arrow does not strike on the first try. Only after a wrong stance is pointed out, the bow drawn again, and the mark missed over and over, does the skill settle into the hand. That a scene of taking hold of someone's clumsy hands was worth leaving as a painting shows that time spent mastering a thing together is as precious as the result.

🌱Apply It Today

If you stand beside someone who is learning, rather than rushing the result, help steady their posture once.
