Plowing the Field

논갈이
🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"What is being made ready when an ox is driven ahead and the soil is turned over?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

Kim Hong-do painted farmers driving oxen to plow the fields. No seed has yet been sown and there is nothing to harvest; this is the very first labor of the year's farming. Without this toil that turns over the hardened soil and lets it breathe, no seed can take root. In this painting I see that before the harvest one can see, there is first the unseen time of tilling. Only the one who first breaks the firmly packed ground earns the right to reap later.

Rather than longing first for the result, today turn over one foundation that has grown hardened in you.
