Summer Landscape
"Why render a lush summer mountain in a single ink tone?"
📝ONGO's Reflection
This is a summer landscape painted in Japan in 1844. Midsummer, thick with deep green foliage, is rendered not in splendid colors but in shades of ink alone. Forsaking color, the lushness and depth of summer come alive intact. In this restraint I see the essence of expression. Richness does not come from mustering many colors and many words. As one paints the four seasons with a single ink, even with little, if one knows how to handle it, one can grow deep enough. Before blaming the scarcity of one's tools, look first at the skill that wields them. To draw depth from little is true skill.

When you feel your means of expression lacking, examine the skill that wields them before the tools.
