Origin Story

Era
From Buddhist practice terminology

The original form of juchaek was juchak (主着). In Buddhism, ju (主) meant "the principal thing" and chak (着) meant "attachment," so juchak signified one's "core attachment" — a firm, settled conviction. A person who had juchak knew their own mind clearly, while to "have no juchak" meant lacking any firm thought or center, drifting this way and that. Over the centuries the pronunciation of juchak softened into juchaek, and juchaek-eopda ("to have no juchaek") came to describe someone who behaves without backbone or consistency.

Many people also say juchaek-ida, but etymologically the correct form is juchaek-eopda ("to lack juchaek"). Since juchaek (juchak) itself means firm conviction, saying someone "has juchaek" would actually be a compliment.

If you keep buying this and that so impulsively ("juchaek-eopsi"), where will it leave you?

If your mind keeps flip-flopping that erratically, who could ever trust you?
