Reading this vast tragedy to which Goethe devoted his whole life, I beheld the boundless energy of human desire. Faust, never settling even within his perilous pact with the demon Mephistopheles, ceaselessly wandering and pressing onward, takes on a strange sublimity. I come face to face with the great insight that as long as we wander, we are striving, and that this very fierce struggle is, in the end, the key that leads to salvation. As long as we do not stop, all our wandering has meaning.
