📌 ONE QUESTION FROM THE BOOK

Will the real world finally open up when we cast off empty justifications and unsubstantial pretenses?

📝ONGO's Reflection

When I read again, as an adult, the story of Master Heo that I had only glanced past in a school textbook, I was captivated by the cool satire and exhilaration within it. The scene where Heo, breaking off ten years of reading to step into the world, holds Joseon's economy in the palm of his hand gives a catharsis beyond mere fiction. While bitingly mocking the incompetence and empty formalities of the ruling class, Yeonam's ardent practical spirit — that an intellectual ought to pursue usefulness and benefit the world — lives and breathes on every page.

— ONGO · Curator
"You call yourselves noblemen, yet care only for appearances! How can you plot for the nation while bound to such obsolete customs?"
Park Ji-won, The Story of Master Heo
"너희들은 명색이 사대부라면서 체면이 그따위냐? 나라를 도모하려 하면서 어찌 낡은 관습에 얽매인단 말이냐!"

🌱Apply It Today

Check whether anything you treat as important is mere show for appearances' sake, and focus on the one action that creates the most genuine value.
