When I first opened this book, I was charmed by the ingenious wit of letting Folly herself step forward as narrator to sing her own praises. Mocking the arrogant scholars and corrupt clergy of his day, Erasmus says that what gently lubricates human life is not cold reason but a fitting measure of folly and self-delusion. If we tried to weigh everything by reason alone, our relationships, our love, our passion would all wither. Following the author's intellectual jest, I recover the ease to embrace my own gaps and follies gladly and laugh them off.
