DAY 251

The Plank in Your Own Eye

Matthew 7:3
기원후 1세기
ORIGINAL
τί δὲ βλέπεις τὸ κάρφος τὸ ἐν τῷ ὀφθαλμῷ τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ σου, τὴν δὲ ἐν τῷ σῷ ὀφθαλμῷ δοκὸν οὐ κατανοεῖς;
📜 THE VERSE

Why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but fail to notice the plank in your own?

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

The flaw I just noticed in someone else — have I not already seen the same in myself?

📝Reflection

Someone else's speck catches the eye easily, while my own plank oddly stays invisible. It is an optical illusion made by distance. Another's flaw is fully visible from outside, but my own flaw sits too close to me to be seen. This verse does not ask us to overlook others' faults. It states an order of operations: remove your own plank first, and you will see your brother's speck more accurately, and more mercifully.

If someone's flaw irritates you especially today, first search for a similar flaw in yourself.
