Heraclitus
Did I assume today's self the same as yesterday's, or accept the change?
📝ONGO's Reflection
Heraclitus said you cannot step into the same river twice — not only because the river flows, but because the one who steps in is already a different person. We live believing yesterday's self is today's self. But seen precisely, the me who was angry yesterday and the me who is calm today are different people. The one who accepts this change without fear is the most free. The cosmos Heraclitus saw was flow, and when we live as part of that flow, we become most fully ourselves.
"No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it is not the same river and he is not the same man."Heraclitus, Fragments (preserved in Plato, Cratylus 402a)
🌱Apply It Today
Try, even in a small way, one thing you've wanted to do differently from yesterday. Step just one millimeter aside from the self-definition "I'm just this kind of person." That one millimeter is the beginning of the flow.
