📖 Origin of the Hanja
The hanja "孫" combines 子 (son) + 系 (continuation) → descendant. Korean Son traces to Son Sun, a famous Silla-era filial son who tried to bury his own son to feed his mother, but found a buried bell instead — recorded in 「Samguk Yusa」.
