산수도 (부채 그림)
🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"What is the secret to holding a vast scene within a small frame?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

This is a landscape painted on a fan-shaped frame by the Japanese painter Kano Motonobu. The broad expanse of mountain and water is condensed onto a surface no larger than a palm. The compositional power of Japanese painting stands out, yet its wisdom rings true in any land. In this small painting I see the power of compression. Since not everything can fit in a narrow space, one selects and keeps only what truly matters. A small frame first asks the painter what to discard. A limited space, on the contrary, makes the essence distinct.
