This is a Chinese chrysanthemum painting by an unknown painter. The chrysanthemum blooms alone in the cold frost of late autumn, when all other flowers have fallen. For this it has from old times been held the flower of integrity and constancy. I see deep meaning in this late blooming. Harder than blooming in the spring when all bloom is blooming in the time when all are falling. There is true firmness in going one's own road even in the time when all have stopped. The reason its scent is strong is that it blooms in the coldest time.
