Gaehwasa temple by Jeong Seon

개화사
🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"Am I truly seeing this familiar landscape with my own eyes?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

Jeong Seon painted, with his own brush, a temple cradled in the foot of a mountain. Rather than copying Chinese painting albums, he walked the mountains and rivers of Joseon himself and held them in his own eyes, opening the way of true-view landscape. In this painting I read the courage to see what is seen exactly as it is. Follow only the manner others have praised, and even the landscape before you is seen through another's eyes. Jeong Seon saw the mountain and temple before him anew, in his own way. That honest gaze opened a new road.

🌱Apply It Today

The more familiar a thing is, the more you should not follow the verdict others have set, but look at it once more with your own eyes.
