Joyous Banquet of Guo Ziyi

🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"What did this old man's banquet, ringed by his descendants, hold to be the greatest of blessings?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

An unnamed painter rendered, in splendor, the Tang dynasty's Guo Ziyi enjoying a banquet encircled by his descendants. People hung the glory of a man who had tasted high office and great fortune upon their walls, holding it auspicious. Yet the center of the scene is not gold and treasure but the people gathered around him. I see, in this painting, that the greatest blessing a lifetime finally gathers is not the wealth one piles up but the number of people seated nearby. Fortune is a position; people are warmth.
