Kim Hong-do, Indian Prophet

낯선 나라의 선인
🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"What was the curiosity that set a strange figure from afar onto the canvas?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

This is an ink painting in which Danwon Kim Hong-do drew a sage-like figure come from a distant land. Unlike the familiar figures of genre scenes, the unfamiliar dress and air make the scene fresh. I read, here, a gaze that seeks to look beyond one's own world. To break from what one always painted and lift a never-before-seen subject onto the brush tip requires both curiosity and courage. The familiar is comfortable, but the new makes a person grow. An attitude of quietly looking into the strange, rather than flinching before it, widens one's world.
