"Within the grand feast, whose place do I see?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

A feast welcoming the Pyeongan governor unfolds in splendor by the river, and the frame swells with boats, torches, and onlooking commoners. Kim Hong-do painted not only the central figure but the countless people who upheld the feast. In this painting I see the innumerable hands standing behind one person's glory. The more splendid the occasion, the more unseen people made it possible. The painter's brush reaches not only to those in high places, but equally to those rowing the oars and holding the torches.

When you see someone's success, call to mind also the place of those who silently upheld the splendor behind it.
