"What was the wish that the heaped layers of books faced toward?"
📝ONGO's Reflection
This is a folk painting with books piled high to fill the shelves. Writing implements and objects are set in orderly fashion among the books, so that order flows through the scene. I see, in this painting, a plain and upright longing toward learning. Even those without the means to read kept from forgetting the heart that wished to grow better by drawing books and keeping them near. The piled books were the self one wished to pile up. What one longs for lifts a person upward. Even beyond the reach of one's hand, mere gazing gives rise to a direction.

Though you cannot reach it yet, keep what you long for near, so that you lose not at least the direction.
