고누놀이
🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"Why was so small a game, lines drawn on the ground, left behind as a painting?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

This is a genre painting by Kim Hong-do, a scene of people scratching a board into the earth to play gonu. No precious tools, no formality: scratch lines with a stick, set down pebbles, and that is all. Even so, every gathered face is full of delight. In this plainness I see the essence of enjoyment. Good times do not come from costly preparation. People to sit around together and a moment to share the heart are enough. In trying to mount a game grandly, one forgets the very people to laugh with. A single scratched line, and the game begins.
