🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"What was the heart of the painter who carried a poem's meaning into a picture?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

This is a landscape in which the Yuan dynasty painter Tang Di carried the poet Wang Wei's poem onto the canvas. He unfolded a mood written in words into a scene of mountains and water. Though it came from the tradition of Chinese painting, its attempt resounds anywhere. I see, in this painting, the work of carrying the heart into another vessel. Even turned from the grace of poetry into the language of painting, its deep meaning lives on. Though the form of expression changes, if the heart one seeks to convey is true, it reaches. Whether word, painting, or song, only the vessel differs; the sincerity within is one. Form is but a bridge; the heart on the far side is the essence.
