This Japanese landscape by an unknown hand shapes deep space through the shading of ink and broad empty ground. The unpainted void is wider than the painted mountains. Empty space is not idleness but intention, a place the viewer's imagination enters and fills. This way of conveying more by not saying everything shows that silence is at times richer than speech. There must be a space left empty for someone to enter. Empty space is, in the end, room made for another.
