🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"What heart is held in painting distant things small?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

This is a landscape by the Japanese painter Nagasawa Rosetsu, in which a towering mountain and a small boat drifting far off are placed within one frame. The sense of empty space in Japanese painting stands out, yet its mood reaches any heart. In this painting I see the calm that distance gives. The mountain close at hand is large and distinct, but the boat grown distant is small and faint, with nothing to contend over. Seen from afar, many things grow small and light. A gaze that steps back to look stills the heart.

When you are swept up in a tangled matter, step far back and look upon it as something small and light.
