Still Life With Bronze Vessels And Flowering Plant

🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"What do flowering plants beside an aged bronze vessel set side by side for us to see?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

This painting, attributed to Jang Seung-eop, places a weighty bronze vessel and a slender flowering plant in the same scene. The metal that has endured a thousand years and the flower that blooms for a single season cast light upon each other. I see here a scene where the old and the new keep company without quarreling. The old vessel does not fault the flower for its brevity, and the flower does not envy the vessel its weight. A life too holds both what should be long kept and what may be briefly enjoyed. Only when the two are not set apart does a place at last grow full.
