🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"What does a guardian holding a snake in one hand and a wish-fulfilling jewel in the other protect?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

This is a Buddhist painting of Virupaksha, guardian of the south among the Four Heavenly Kings. In one hand he holds a fierce snake, in the other a shining wish-fulfilling jewel. He grasps threat and treasure at once. In these two hands I see the essence of guarding. One who would protect must know how to handle both the dangerous and the precious. Turn from danger and you lose the treasure; covet only the treasure and you are swallowed by danger. Only one who grasps the fearful thing and does not waver guards the precious thing to the end. To guard is to handle fear.

If there is something you wish to protect, do not flee the fear that comes with it; grasp danger and treasure together.
