DAY 15

Neither Elated nor Repelled

Bhagavad Gītā 2:57

ORIGINAL

📜 THE VERSE

One who clings nowhere in excess, who neither exults at the good nor loathes the bad that comes — in such a one wisdom stands firm.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

Do I exult too much at good news and loathe too much at bad, dragged along by feeling each time?

📝Reflection

Through this verse I learn that equanimity is not indifference. To be grateful for the good without gloating, and to endure the bad without answering it with hatred — that calm is a mature heart. It is the same ground where Buddhism warns against a mind dragged about by like and dislike. Before hastily judging today's events as good or bad, I continue the practice of meeting them one beat more calmly.

🌱Apply It Today

When things go well today ease the gloating, when they go badly ease the loathing — call it simply 'what happened today.'
