DAY 65

Grow Still, Little by Little

Bhagavad Gītā 6:25
기원전 2세기경 편찬(서사시 전승)
ORIGINAL
śanaiḥ śanair uparamed buddhyā dhṛti-gṛhītayā
📜 THE VERSE

With a mind held firm, grow still little by little; rest the mind in the self, and grasp at nothing.

💡 TL;DR

In this verse I linger long on the words 'little by little.' Stillness is not conquered in one stroke but comes slowly, unhurried, as water settles.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

Am I so impatient to reach stillness all at once that the very impatience stirs my mind more?

📝Reflection

In this verse I linger long on the words 'little by little.' Stillness is not conquered in one stroke but comes slowly, unhurried, as water settles. The harder I strain to empty the mind, the noisier it grows, so the wisdom is to hold firm and simply wait for it to subside. As well-water stirred turns muddy but clears when left alone, so does the mind. I set down even the mind that rushes stillness, and quietly wait for the water to settle on its own.

🌱Apply It Today

If your mind is noisy today, do not force it empty — count your breaths, saying, 'it settles, little by little.'
