DAY 257

Five Things Already Set: Lifespan, Deeds, Wealth, Learning, Death

Subhashita (Traditional Sanskrit Maxims)
기원후 3~12세기경 편찬(구전 격언시)
ORIGINAL
आयुः कर्म च वित्तं च विद्या निधनमेव च । पञ्चैतानि हि सृज्यन्ते गर्भस्थस्यैव देहिनः ॥ (āyuḥ karma ca vittaṃ ca vidyā nidhanam eva ca, pañcaitāni hi sṛjyante garbhasthasyaiva dehinaḥ)
📜 THE VERSE

Lifespan, deeds, wealth, learning, and death — these five are already set even while one is still in the womb.

💡 TL;DR

At first this verse sounds fatalistic.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

Do I clearly separate what I cannot change from what I still can?

📝Reflection

At first this verse sounds fatalistic. But the real reason the old teachers left such words was different — to set down the anxiety over a portion already fixed, and pour my strength instead into the attitude and effort I can actually touch, day by day. Only by releasing what cannot be changed can I fully focus on what can.
