DAY 253

Four Tests for Gold, Four Tests for Character

Subhashita (Traditional Sanskrit Maxims)
기원후 3~12세기경 편찬(구전 격언시)
ORIGINAL
यथा चतुर्भिः कनकं परीक्ष्यते निघर्षणच्छेदनतापताडनैः । तथा चतुर्भिर्नरचारित्रं ज्ञायते त्यागेन शीलेन गुणेन कर्मणा ॥ (yathā caturbhiḥ kanakaṃ parīkṣyate nigharṣaṇacchedanatāpatāḍanaiḥ, tathā caturbhir naracaritraṃ jñāyate tyāgena śīlena guṇena karmaṇā)
📜 THE VERSE

As gold is tested by rubbing, cutting, heating, and hammering, so a person's character is known through generosity, conduct, quality, and action.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

Of these four tests, which one am I most tempted to avoid?

📝Reflection

Anyone can sound admirable in words. True character shows under pressure — do we give without holding back, does our conduct stay steady, does our skill hold up in practice, do our actions match our words? Just as gold reveals its purity only under fire, a person's real worth appears only after being tested.
