📜 THE VERSE

A purified mind bears fruit — clear brightness, inner cheer, one-pointedness, mastery of the senses, and readiness to behold the Self.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

If my mind is heavy and clouded, what have I let cloud it?

📝Reflection

Saumanasya means "a good state of mind," a quiet cheer that rises even without cause. Ekāgrya is "gathering to one point." Patañjali strings together four gifts born of purity. When the mind clears, first its energy lightens (sattva-śuddhi); upon that blooms a causeless cheer; upon that cheer, focus grows easy; focus masters the senses; and at last one is ready to behold the Self. The order is beautiful — forced focus does not create clarity; rather, clarity brings focus of its own accord. The real reason we cannot concentrate may not be weak will but a clouded mind.

🌱Apply It Today

When focus fails today, before squeezing out more willpower, first find and clear what is clouding your mind.
