Reading the cold fury that the nihilist Bazarov breathes out as he denies every value of the older generation, I suddenly discover a fierce longing hidden behind that destructive stance. The way he, who mocked old customs, finally crumbles before the uncontrollable emotion of love is strangely moving. Can we ever be truly free from the past?
