DAY 30

The Sorrows of Young Werther

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe · 1774
Die Leiden des jungen Werthers
📌 ONE QUESTION FROM THE BOOK

Have you ever let your boiling emotions burn entirely without suppressing them with reason?

📝ONGO's Reflection

It is a novel like the fever of youth. When I first read it, I pitied Werther's reckless love, but meeting it again with the years gone by, his pure passion itself strikes me as a wonder. To the eyes of an adult grown used to compromise and calculation, he is a fool. And yet do we not, at times, long for that whirlwind of feeling fierce enough to fling ourselves wholly away? Goethe's flowing sentences set trembling again the romance and ardor that had hardened like fossils within me.

— ONGO · Curator
"There is nothing in this world that is as indispensable to man as love."
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, The Sorrows of Young Werther
"이 세상에서 사랑만큼 사람에게 꼭 필요한 것은 없다."
