The Cherry Orchard

📌 ONE QUESTION FROM THE BOOK

Are we turning a blind eye to the approaching changes in life by clinging to a beautiful past?

📝ONGO's Reflection

Reading this, Chekhov's final play, a tenderness for things that fade away washes over me. The aristocratic family, buried in debt, must sell the cherry orchard, yet without any plan they hold a party inside the illusion of the past. The sound of the axe striking the cherry trees in the closing scene rang in my ears like an alarm bell urging me to face reality. It portrays the sorrow of one who refuses change, and the human fate of having to step over it and move forward.

— ONGO · Curator
"Oh, my lovely, beautiful orchard! My life, my youth, my happiness, goodbye!"
Anton Chekhov, The Cherry Orchard
"오, 나의 사랑스럽고 아름다운 동산이여! 나의 삶, 나의 젊음, 나의 행복이여, 안녕!"

🌱Apply It Today

On a slip of paper, write down one past glory or attachment you cling to unconsciously, even as it blocks your growth. Then take a quiet moment to bid it a firm farewell.
