ORIGINAL

📜 THE VERSE

As the bee gathers nectar and flies off without harming the flower's color or scent — so move through the world.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

In gaining something, am I damaging the place I take it from?

📝Reflection

The bee gathers nectar from a flower without harming it — indeed, in its coming and going it carries pollen and helps the flower bear fruit. It takes and gives life at once. The Dhammapada asks us to move through the world that way. We often assume that to gain something we must damage something somewhere — that for me to profit, another must lose; for me to shine, the next must darken. But the bee's way is different: take fully what you need, yet do not ruin the place you took from. In a deal, a relationship, in nature. The wisest taking is the taking that leaves the place as it was, or better, for the next person.

🌱Apply It Today

Where you gain something today, consider once: "after I leave, will this place be damaged, or intact?" The bee's way is not far off.
