The Mind Is Like a Skilled Painter

Avatamsaka Sutra — "The mind is like a skilled painter"

📜 THE VERSE

The mind is like a skilled painter; it can paint every kind of world.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

The world my mind painted today — was it in bright colors or dark?

📝Reflection

Walking the same street among the same people, some days everything is ashen and some days bright. The street did not change. The color on my brush that day did. The Avatamsaka likens the mind to a painter. Each moment we paint our own world, then stand before the painting lamenting as if someone else had colored it. This is not the light advice to "stay positive." It is a cool reminder not to forget that mine is the hand holding the brush. The freedom to choose the color was always on my side.

🌱Apply It Today

If today feels drab, ask once: "Did the event color this, or my brush?" Merely regripping the brush changes the scenery.
