Not Even Wisdom Is Held in Hand
Even wisdom is not an object to hold in hand, nothing to attain and possess. Only when even the pride of knowing is set down does clarity come.
Caged in the pride of "I know," am I closing my own room to learn more?
📝Reflection
The very last thing to set down is the mind that says "I possess wisdom." Pile up knowledge, and at some point it becomes a new arrogance — "I know this much," "I have awakened." But this verse says to set down even that final pride. Even wisdom, the moment it is held in hand, becomes baggage. A truly clear person is not even aware of being clear. When water is clearest, it is so transparent it does not even know it is there. Let the pride of knowing in, and it becomes a new cloudiness. Here lies why those who know most deeply grow more humble: the more they know, the larger the unknown looms. The end of wisdom is not "I am wise," but returning again to an empty vessel, able to hold anything anew.
🌱Apply It Today
When "I already know this" makes you tune someone out today, briefly empty the vessel and listen as if for the first time.
This verse is read as universal humanistic wisdom, not religion — no faith is promoted, and the reflection is 100% original ONGO content.
